I ran for and was elected to serve as the Wake County Sheriff in November of 2022. Simply put, people live life to the fullest when they feel safe. As Sheriff, I'm committed to providing effective, inclusive, and efficient public safety because it’s essential for the realization and shared experiences of quality education, clean environment, sound economy, reliable mass transit, and equal access to an overall quality life.  

As a United States Army veteran and retired Major from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office with 28 years of service, I use my leadership skills and experience to build relationships and establish open communication with staff and the community to restore public trust, unity and confidence in the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to provide equal protection for all.  With a clear vision, forward thinking, and innovation, I have begun to recruit, properly vet, hire, train, and equip the most qualified individuals to serve and protect the residents and properties of Wake County.  

By being transparent, accessible, and available to staff and the public I will set the example of what’s expected of personnel regarding public interactions and engagement. Along with the above-listed priorities, the Sheriff's Office under my leadership, will focus on filling current vacancies and maintaining sufficient staffing to safely perform the duties of the office and daily operations to ensure Wake County is the safest place to live, work, visit and play!
